2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 towing capacity
US & CanadaEvery rating Chevrolet publishes for the 2026 Silverado 1500, read from Chevrolet's own documents, in pounds and kilograms.
How much can the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 tow?
Chevrolet rates the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to tow up to 13,300 lb (6,033 kg) on a ball hitch in one configuration: Double Cab, Standard Bed, 2WD, Duramax 3.0L I-6, at 19,000 lb GCWR, with Max Trailering Package and 20 in wheels. Source: Chevrolet, 2026 Trailering Guide, Silverado 1500 trailer weight ratings, PDF pp. 26 to 30. The highest fifth wheel or gooseneck rating is 10,300 lb (4,672 kg) (Chevrolet, 2026 Trailering Guide, Silverado 1500 trailer weight ratings, PDF pp. 26 to 30). Maximum payload is 2,260 lb (1,025 kg) (Chevrolet, 2026 Silverado 1500 model page and FAQ (chevrolet.com)).
A maximum is one truck, not yours. The rating that applies is the one for your exact cab, bed, engine, drive, axle and packages, and it is printed on the labels in the driver's door opening. Find your row in the table below, then check payload and GCWR as well: a truck often runs out of payload before it reaches its tow rating.

Chevrolet's one-page 2026 Silverado 1500 Max Trailering sheet disagrees with the Trailering Guide in three places: Double Cab Standard Bed 2WD 5.3L with the Max Trailering Package (sheet 11,400 lb, guide 11,300 lb), Crew Cab Standard Bed 4x4 Duramax with the package and 20 in wheels (sheet 12,800 lb, guide 12,900 lb), and that Duramax line's GCWR (sheet 19,100 lb, guide 19,000 lb). This page shows the guide's figures. The door label on your truck settles it.
What the Silverado 1500 needs to tow its rating
These come from Chevrolet's own documents, cited in the sources below.
- The 13,300 lb maximum needs a Double Cab Standard Bed 2WD with the Duramax 3.0L I-6, the Max Trailering Package and 20 in wheels (Chevrolet Trailering Guide, p. 26).
- GM's 2026 Silverado/Sierra 1500 towing supplement: a weight-distributing hitch is optional up to 7,000 lb (3,175 kg) of trailer and required above it, set to 50% distribution.
- Chevrolet: tongue weight should be 10% to 15% of the loaded trailer, and gooseneck or fifth-wheel kingpin weight 15% to 25%. Neither may push the truck past its rear GAWR, GVWR or maximum trailer tongue load.
- A fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch must be attached to the truck frame, not the bed, with the kingpin load near the rear axle centerline.
- GM: the trailer, its tongue and everything in the truck must stay under GCWR, GVWR, the maximum trailer weight rating, the maximum tongue weight rating and the rear GAWR. The Trailering Information Label on the driver side B-pillar has those ratings for your truck.
Payload, tongue weight and GCWR: the limits you hit first
Our guidance, not a rule. This is how the ratings above fit together, not a figure from Chevrolet.
The tow rating is only one of five limits. The trailer's tongue weight sits on the truck, so it comes out of payload along with every passenger and everything in the bed, and it loads the rear axle. The truck and trailer together must stay under GCWR. A truck with a big crew and a full bed can reach its payload or GCWR with a trailer well under its tow rating. Run your own numbers in Can I tow this?, which checks all three at once and names the one you hit first, or work through them one at a time with the payload calculator and the tongue weight calculator.
2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 towing capacity in Canada
Chevrolet Canada lists the same 13,300 lb (6,033 kg) maximum for the 2026 Silverado 1500, for the same Double Cab Standard Bed Duramax with 20 in wheels, but a higher maximum payload: 1,080 kg (2,380 lb) against the 2,260 lb on chevrolet.com. We have not checked Canadian configurations row by row. Source: Chevrolet Canada, 2026 Silverado 1500 model page (chevrolet.ca) .
On a Canadian truck the certification label gives GVWR in kilograms, labelled both GVWR and PNBV (Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (C.R.C., c. 1038), s. 6(1)(e)(i)). The figures to trust are the ones on your own door opening.

Tongue weight should be 10% to 15% of total loaded trailer weight; gooseneck or fifth-wheel kingpin weight 15% to 25%. A fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch must be attached to the truck frame, not supported by the pickup bed, with the kingpin load near the rear axle centerline. The combined weight must stay below GCWR, GVWR, the maximum trailer weight rating, the maximum trailer tongue weight rating and the rear GAWR; a Trailering Information Label on the driver side B-pillar shows the ratings for the specific truck (p. 6). Tongue weight 10 to 15% conventional, 15 to 25% fifth-wheel or gooseneck (p. 8). Quoted: "Use the following guidelines to determine if a weight-distributing hitch should be used." Checked 2026-10-24.

Quoted: "For conventional trailering, the tongue weight should be 10% to 15% of the loaded trailer weight. For gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailering, the tongue weight should be 15% to 25% of the loaded trailer weight." Checked 2026-10-24.
