What the Ranger needs to tow its rating

These come from Ford's own documents, cited in the sources below.

Ford: trailers over 3,500 lb need the Trailer Tow Package (53R), and Ford says the New Vehicle Limited Warranty may be voided if you tow without it.
Towing off the rear step bumper alone is limited to 3,500 lb and 350 lb tongue weight (Ford: "Do not exceed trailer weight of 3,500 lbs. when towing with bumper only.").
Hitch receiver ratings printed by Ford: 7,500 lb and 750 lb tongue on Ranger with 53R; 5,510 lb and 550 lb tongue on Ranger Raptor. The receiver also carries a label with its capacity.
Combined weight of the truck and trailer cannot exceed the listed GCWR, and Ford's ratings assume a 150 lb driver and passenger.
Frontal area limit: 30 sq ft without the Trailer Tow Package and 55 sq ft with it.

Payload, tongue weight and GCWR: the limits you hit first

Our guidance, not a rule. This is how the ratings above fit together, not a figure from Ford.

The tow rating is only one of five limits. The trailer's tongue weight sits on the truck, so it comes out of payload along with every passenger and everything in the bed, and it loads the rear axle. The truck and trailer together must stay under GCWR. A truck with a big crew and a full bed can reach its payload or GCWR with a trailer well under its tow rating. 2026 Ford Ranger towing capacity in Canada

Ford Canada lists the 2026 Ranger as 4x4 on all four models, with the same 7,500 lb (XL, XLT, Lariat with the Trailer Tow Package) and 5,510 lb (Raptor) ratings. Canadian maximum payload is 1,763 lb because the 4x2 is not sold there.

On a Canadian truck the certification label gives GVWR in kilograms, labelled both GVWR and PNBV (Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (C.R.C., c. 1038), s. 6(1)(e)(i)). The figures to trust are the ones on your own door opening.
