2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee towing capacity
US & CanadaEvery rating Jeep publishes for the 2026 Grand Cherokee, read from Jeep's own documents, in pounds and kilograms.
How much can the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee tow?
Jeep rates the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee to tow up to 6,200 lb (2,812 kg) on a ball hitch in one configuration: Grand Cherokee Laredo, 2WD, 3.6L V-6 or 2.0L Hurricane 4 Turbo, 3.45 axle, with No package named on the spec sheet. Source: Stellantis, 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Preliminary Specifications, Weights p. 7 and Trailer Towing p. 9. Maximum payload is 1,400 lb (635 kg) (Stellantis, 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Preliminary Specifications, Weights p. 7 and Trailer Towing p. 9).
A maximum is one truck, not yours. The rating that applies is the one for your exact cab, bed, engine, drive, axle and packages, and it is printed on the labels in the driver's door opening. Find your row in the table below, then check payload and GCWR as well: a truck often runs out of payload before it reaches its tow rating.

What the Grand Cherokee needs to tow its rating
These come from Jeep's own documents, cited in the sources below.
- Jeep's 2026 spec sheets give 6,200 lb for the two-row Grand Cherokee (3.6L V-6 and 2.0L Hurricane 4 Turbo, 2WD and 4WD, 3.45 axle) and the three-row Grand Cherokee L (3.6L V-6), and 6,000 lb for the Grand Cherokee 4xe (3.70 axle).
- The sheets are marked Preliminary and the weights are estimates; the payload for your own vehicle is on its door jamb label.
- Payload is Jeep's maximum allowable weight of driver, passengers, cargo and options, so a trailer's tongue weight comes out of it too.
- The two-row sheet sends readers to separate 4xe documents for the plug-in hybrid; the 4xe rows here come from that 4xe sheet.
Payload, tongue weight and GCWR: the limits you hit first
Our guidance, not a rule. This is how the ratings above fit together, not a figure from Jeep.
The tow rating is only one of five limits. The trailer's tongue weight sits on the truck, so it comes out of payload along with every passenger and everything in the bed, and it loads the rear axle. The truck and trailer together must stay under GCWR. A truck with a big crew and a full bed can reach its payload or GCWR with a trailer well under its tow rating. Run your own numbers in Can I tow this?, which checks all three at once and names the one you hit first, or work through them one at a time with the payload calculator and the tongue weight calculator.
2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee towing capacity in Canada
Stellantis Canada's 2026 sheets match: Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L are listed 4WD only at 2,818 kg (6,200 lb), and the 4xe at 2,722 kg (6,000 lb). Canadian 4WD payloads equal the US 4WD figures.
On a Canadian truck the certification label gives GVWR in kilograms, labelled both GVWR and PNBV (Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (C.R.C., c. 1038), s. 6(1)(e)(i)). The figures to trust are the ones on your own door opening.
