Every rating Jeep publishes for the 2026 Wrangler, read from Jeep's own documents, in pounds and kilograms.

How much can the 2026 Jeep Wrangler tow?

5,000 lb Max conventional towing (2,268 kg)
Not published Max fifth wheel or gooseneck
1,562 lb Max payload (709 kg)
Not published Max conventional tongue load

Jeep rates the 2026 Jeep Wrangler to tow up to 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) on a ball hitch in one configuration: Rubicon 4-door, 3.6L V-6, 850RE 8-speed automatic, 4.10 axle, at 10,300 lb GCWR, with Rubicon 4-door, automatic, 4.10 axle. Source: Stellantis, 2026 Jeep Wrangler Specifications, Engines p. 2 and Towing Capacities pp. 11 to 12. Maximum payload is 1,562 lb (709 kg) (Stellantis, 2026 Jeep Wrangler Specifications, Engines p. 2 and Towing Capacities pp. 11 to 12).

A maximum is one truck, not yours. The rating that applies is the one for your exact cab, bed, engine, drive, axle and packages, and it is printed on the labels in the driver's door opening. Find your row in the table below, then check payload and GCWR as well: a truck often runs out of payload before it reaches its tow rating.

What the Wrangler needs to tow its rating

These come from Jeep's own documents, cited in the sources below.

  • Jeep's engine ratings: 2,000 lb for 2-door models, 3,500 lb for 4-door models, and 5,000 lb only for the 4-door Rubicon with the automatic and the 4.10 axle (for the 2.0L, also with the LT285/70R17C tire). The 6.4L V-8 is rated 3,500 lb.
  • Owner's manual: a fascia or bumper mounted ball limits the trailer to 3,500 lb, 30 sq ft of frontal area and 350 lb tongue weight, and you must never exceed the maximum tongue weight stamped on the bumper or hitch.
  • The owner's manual prints no trailer weight table; it sends owners to jeep.com and jeep.ca for the ratings.
  • Under the Sport and Sahara tables, Jeep says GCWR counts base weight, options weight, two passengers, the trailer weight rating and trailer equipment.

Payload, tongue weight and GCWR: the limits you hit first

Our guidance, not a rule. This is how the ratings above fit together, not a figure from Jeep.

The tow rating is only one of five limits. The trailer's tongue weight sits on the truck, so it comes out of payload along with every passenger and everything in the bed, and it loads the rear axle. The truck and trailer together must stay under GCWR. A truck with a big crew and a full bed can reach its payload or GCWR with a trailer well under its tow rating. Run your own numbers in Can I tow this?, which checks all three at once and names the one you hit first, or work through them one at a time with the payload calculator and the tongue weight calculator.

2026 Jeep Wrangler towing capacity in Canada

Not verified against a Stellantis Canada document for the 2026 Wrangler; the figures above are from the US specification sheet.

On a Canadian truck the certification label gives GVWR in kilograms, labelled both GVWR and PNBV (Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (C.R.C., c. 1038), s. 6(1)(e)(i)). The figures to trust are the ones on your own door opening.
