About the figures.

The 3.51 in the axle column is the final gear ratio Kia prints for the gas model's 8-speed automatic; the HEV rows leave it blank.

Ratings are the 2027 second generation. The 2025 Telluride (3.8L V6, 5,000 or 5,500 lb) is a different vehicle; do not apply its X-Pro figure to a 2027.

What the Telluride needs to tow its rating

These come from Kia's own documents, cited in the sources below.

  • Kia: "Towing requires additional equipment." The integrated tow hitch is standard on X-Pro and available on every other trim (Kia Media overview).
  • Gas owner's manual: 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) with a trailer brake system, 1,653 lb (750 kg) without; maximum tongue weight 500 lb (227 kg). Standard, X-Line and X-Pro share one rating.
  • HEV owner's manual (US): 4,500 lb (2,041 kg) with trailer brakes, 1,653 lb (750 kg) without; maximum tongue weight 400 lb (182 kg).
  • Both manuals: keep the tongue load at 10 to 15% of the loaded trailer weight, do not tow in the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km), stay under 60 mph (100 km/h) with a trailer and at 45 mph (70 km/h) or less on long uphill grades.
  • Kia prints GVWR (gas 6,063 lb FWD, 6,261 lb AWD; HEV 6,283 lb FWD, 6,504 lb AWD) but no payload or GCWR.

Payload, tongue weight and GCWR: the limits you hit first

Our guidance, not a rule. This is how the ratings above fit together, not a figure from Kia.

The tow rating is only one of five limits. The trailer's tongue weight sits on the truck, so it comes out of payload along with every passenger and everything in the bed, and it loads the rear axle. The truck and trailer together must stay under GCWR. A truck with a big crew and a full bed can reach its payload or GCWR with a trailer well under its tow rating. 2027 Kia Telluride towing capacity in Canada

Partly verified. Kia's 2027 Telluride HEV owner's manual prints a Canada chart: 2,041 kg (4,500 lb) with trailer brakes, 750 kg (1,653 lb) without, maximum tongue weight 181 kg (399 lb). The gas manual prints a single chart with no Canada split. Kia Canada's website still shows the 2025 Telluride (up to 5,500 lb / 2,500 kg), so 2027 Canadian figures from kia.ca are not verified. On a Canadian truck the certification label gives GVWR in kilograms, labelled both GVWR and PNBV (Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (C.R.C., c. 1038), s. 6(1)(e)(i)). The figures to trust are the ones on your own door opening.
