2026 Ram 1500 towing capacity

US & Canada

Every rating Ram publishes for the 2026 1500, read from Ram's own documents, in pounds and kilograms.

How much can the 2026 Ram 1500 tow?

11,610 lb Max conventional towing (5,266 kg)
Not published Max fifth wheel or gooseneck
2,360 lb Max payload (1,070 kg)
1,100 lb Max conventional tongue load (499 kg)

Ram rates the 2026 Ram 1500 to tow up to 11,610 lb (5,266 kg) on a ball hitch in one configuration: 3.0L Hurricane SO twin turbo I6, Quad Cab 6 ft 4 in bed: 4x2 11,610 lb, 4x4 11,370 lb, 3.92 axle, at 17,000 lb GCWR, with 3.92 axle. Source: Ram, 2026 Ram 1500 Payload & Towing Weight Capacities (chart v2.3), Maximum Trailer Weight Capacities and Maximum Payload Capacities. Maximum payload is 2,360 lb (1,070 kg) (Ram, 2026 Ram 1500 Payload & Towing Weight Capacities (chart v2.3), Maximum Trailer Weight Capacities and Maximum Payload Capacities). The highest conventional tongue load Ram publishes is 1,100 lb (499 kg) (Ram, 2026 Ram 1500 Payload & Towing Weight Capacities (chart v2.3), Maximum Trailer Weight Capacities and Maximum Payload Capacities).

A maximum is one truck, not yours. The rating that applies is the one for your exact cab, bed, engine, drive, axle and packages, and it is printed on the labels in the driver's door opening. Find your row in the table below, then check payload and GCWR as well: a truck often runs out of payload before it reaches its tow rating.

What the 1500 needs to tow its rating

These come from Ram's own documents, cited in the sources below.

  • Ram's chart ratings are for the Tradesman unless a cell is marked RHO or Limited; other trims weigh more and rate lower. Ram: "Trailer weight and payload ratings are mutually exclusive."
  • The receiver is Class IV. Ram: "Maximum tongue weight for Class IV hitch receiver is limited to 1,100 lb."
  • Ram calculates the chart's conventional tongue weight as 10% of the trailer and recommends a weight distributing system for trailers over 5,000 lb.
  • The 11,000 lb class ratings need the 3.92 axle: the same Hurricane SO Quad Cab 4x2 is 8,510 lb on the 3.21 axle and 11,610 lb on the 3.92.
  • Trailer weight capacities include 300 lb of passengers (SAE J2807). Ram publishes no fifth-wheel or gooseneck rating for the Ram 1500.

Payload, tongue weight and GCWR: the limits you hit first

Our guidance, not a rule. This is how the ratings above fit together, not a figure from Ram.

The tow rating is only one of five limits. The trailer's tongue weight sits on the truck, so it comes out of payload along with every passenger and everything in the bed, and it loads the rear axle. The truck and trailer together must stay under GCWR. A truck with a big crew and a full bed can reach its payload or GCWR with a trailer well under its tow rating. Run your own numbers in Can I tow this?, which checks all three at once and names the one you hit first, or work through them one at a time with the payload calculator and the tongue weight calculator.

2026 Ram 1500 towing capacity in Canada

Canadian figures differ. Ram Canada's 2026 Ram 1500 chart lists lower maxima than the US chart for three of four engines: 3.6L Pentastar 7,340 lb (3,329 kg) against 8,130 lb, 5.7L HEMI 10,170 lb (4,613 kg) against 11,320 lb, Hurricane SO 11,220 lb (5,089 kg) against 11,610 lb; Hurricane H/O is 10,000 lb (4,536 kg) in both. Use the Canadian chart (veh_ram1500Ca) for a Canadian truck.

On a Canadian truck the certification label gives GVWR in kilograms, labelled both GVWR and PNBV (Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (C.R.C., c. 1038), s. 6(1)(e)(i)). The figures to trust are the ones on your own door opening.

Common questions

How much can a 2026 Ram 1500 tow?
Up to 11,610 lb in the US, on Ram's own chart: the 3.0L Hurricane SO twin turbo with the 3.92 axle, Quad Cab 6 ft 4 in bed, 4x2, Tradesman. Most configurations rate lower, from 6,340 lb to 11,490 lb. Your exact truck's number depends on engine, axle, cab, bed and drive, so find your row in the table.
What is the towing capacity of the Ram 1500 with the 5.7 HEMI?
The 5.7L HEMI V8 eTorque returns for 2026 and tops out at 11,320 lb (3.92 axle, Crew Cab 5 ft 7 in bed, 4x2). On the 3.21 or 3.55 axle it rates 8,220 lb (4x2) or 7,640 lb (4x4).
What can a Ram 1500 V6 tow?
The 3.6L Pentastar V6 eTorque rates from 6,340 lb to 8,130 lb. The 8,130 lb figure needs the 3.55 axle and the 13,370 lb GCWR, on a Quad Cab 4x2.
What is the payload of a 2026 Ram 1500?
Up to 2,360 lb, on a 3.6L Pentastar Quad Cab 4x2 with a 7,200 lb GVWR. Hurricane SO trucks carry 1,730 lb to 1,930 lb, the 5.7L HEMI 1,630 lb to 1,650 lb, and the Hurricane H/O 1,390 lb to 1,490 lb. Payload and trailer weight are mutually exclusive: the tongue weight comes out of payload.
How much tongue weight can a Ram 1500 handle?
Ram limits the Class IV receiver to 1,100 lb of tongue weight. Ram calculates its chart at 10% tongue weight, so an 11,000 lb trailer at 10% is already 1,100 lb, and the tongue weight also has to fit inside the truck's payload.
What class hitch does a Ram 1500 have?
Ram's 2026 chart calls it a Class IV hitch receiver, limited to 1,100 lb of tongue weight. Ram recommends a weight distributing system for trailers over 5,000 lb.
What is the GCWR and GVWR of a Ram 1500?
On the 2026 chart, GCWR runs from 11,900 lb (3.6L, 3.21 axle) to 17,000 lb (Hurricane SO or 5.7L HEMI, 3.92 axle). GVWR runs from 6,800 lb to 7,800 lb on the payload table (7,800 lb is the RHO). Your own truck's GVWR is on the door-jamb label, and that number wins over any chart.
